Kettlebells hurt my brain

A pistol squat. The most fun you can have keeping one foot on the floor?
Ok, day one of the course proper & the culmination of our last six months’ training.
First up were the pull-up & press tests. Job done & the teaching started, taking us through the delights of the hanging leg-raise (touch your toes to your hands while hanging from a bar) & the pistol.
Don’t worry folks, they’re not moves we’ll be dropping into everyone’s program anytime soon…..
One of the joys of being part of the RKC is the calibre of athletes contained within. So far thirteen men have conquered the RKC ‘Beast challenge’. This is to perform a strict pull up, pistol & overhead press with a 48kg kettlebell. Four of those thirteen Beast Tamers were in the room today, either instructing or taking the course. Also studying is one of only two women to be crowned Iron Maiden for performing the same feats with a 24kg bell. Quality all around.
By 7pm our bodies were lit up from hours of taxing drills & our brains were struggling with information overload. The course is really several years worth of practice & a bookshelf of training books & DVDs condensed into a few days. It will doubtless take a while for all the myriad information to filter down through the brain & even after the first day we can see how our own training over the next few months will be geared.
It’s always humbling to be in the presence of mastery & realise how much you don’t know. After today, consider us very humbled indeed.
