San Jose from the twelfth floor
An unexpected change of plan came this afternoon when we joined a handful of fellow RKCs at the training venue to help set up for the forthcoming course. As a ‘reward’ for helping unload several tons of shiny new kettlebells we were allowed to take our snatch test a day early. We weren’t expecting to do any lifting today, but we thought we’d get it out of the way to lessen the workload tomorrow.
For the uninitiated, the kettlebell snatch means taking the bell from between the legs to overhead in one fluid movement. Claire had to play with the 16kg while I was entertaining the 24kg. After 100 reps each we’d ticked the first box of the course with hands & technique intact.
Overseeing the tests was Senior RKC Jeff O’Connor, a champion strongman & excellent teacher we had the pleasure of meeting last year in Copenhagen. Generous to a fault, he even thanked us for our help by taking us through a short workout. Guess what? More snatches. Such is the way of the RKC.
The real fun starts tomorrow.
