The double-headed eagle has landed!

Brilliant news! The RKC – the gold-standard in kettlebell instruction – is coming to England for the first time ever in October.

Check out the details on Dragon Door & note there are significant discounts available for booking early.

Congratulations to James at KettlebellFever.com for making it happen. We’ve had the privilege of working previously with Master RKCs Andrea DuCane & Peter Lakatos who are leading the event, so we know you are assured of the highest quality instruction.

Having been through the RKC levels I & II ourselves, we can guarantee those brave enough to sign up are in for a treat, but we also know how hard it is too. That’s why we’ve designed a course of RKC preparation workshops to get you there with all the tools you’ll need to survive intact. [There's a great video of a recent RKC on that page too if you want to see what it involves]

Whether you’ve signed up already or are wondering whether to take the plunge, if you have any questions just contact us & we’ll give you as much information as we can.

Power to you!

Perfect Rep II: ‘Own Your Body’ Workshop

Posted in Announcements, Events by Roger McCarthy RKC II
Oct 25 2011

DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE HERE! – Contact us to reserve your place.

On Saturday 19th November we’ll be hosting our second workshop with dr mc schraefel. Whether you were at the previous session or not, this one will leave you with a fascinating array of tips, tricks & drills that you can use straight away to improve your quality of movement & athletic performance.

  • Do you want to move pain free?
  • Break a performance plateau?
  • Lift heavier and move faster; get leaner, rest better
  • All preferably right now – not days, weeks, months of training later?

More often than not there is indeed a practical path to get immediate performance improvement, right now, and it’s pretty simple:

WE NEED TO MOVE!

The better the quality of our movement, it seems, the better quality of our practice. No kidding.

No science person will say “this is exactly why this approach works” – we’re too complex with too many unknowns about us to say for sure – heck we’re not entirely sure why aspirin works.

The best science and practice, however, is showing us that the nervous system is a potent factor in controlling our performance.  Work with the nervous system through movement firing up motion, balance and vision, and we have a powerful deliberate path to find performance enhancements – whether that improvement is pain reduction or greater speed strength and recovery.

In September, we looked at some simple drills that could be applied immediately for vision, balance and movement that had immediate benefit for performance – in this case, working on kettlebell lifts.

In this second workshop, we’ll review those drills and then go through our bodies, one joint at a time
learning precise targets and movements to dial in your own mobility practice to

  • keep improving performance
  • reducing incidence of injury and
  • recovering quicker

Whether you’re just starting a physical practice, thinking about diet and getting lean or already an accomplished athlete, there’s something for everyone in this workshop.

You will leave with

  • - an introduction to precise movements for each joint in the body -with special focus on the usual stuck areas in the hips and upper back
  • - how to use fun movement, vision and balance drills to improve performance
  • - how to take advantage of skeletal structure to enhance muscular performance
  • - how to  blend mobility practice with training sessions
  • - three things science seems to be saying about why this movement path is so immediately effective
  • - more assessments for testing and improving performance
  • - at least one joke about Canadians

As with workshop one, we will test and reassess every move we make throughout the day so you can get better at tuning what works for you.

There are no secrets: we are applying the best we know about movement and science to improve performance not today but right this minute.

Contact us to reserve your place.

Start time is noon & the workshop finish approximately 4pm. Cost is £80 per person, payable in advance, but discounts are available as follows:

  • early registration discount of 15%  (£12 off!) by saturday, Nov 5 noon UK time
  • a 10% (£8) discount by Nov 12, noon
  • and a special 20% (£16) discount till Nov 12, noon for first responders, front line care workers and full time students

The concepts in this workshop are informed by the zhealth approach to movement, which itself is grounded in research in neurology and human performance. The workshop is designed to be walk in – no prep required, but if you’re interested, and would like to start practicing the movements for the workshop, by all means consider ordering the zhealth level 1 DVD/Manual package  (http://tinyurl.com/39jnlbd).

The workshop is hosted by Bodyology and lead by dr. m.c. schraefel, ph.d., nsca cscs, zhealth master trainer, precision nutrition coach level1
rkc II, ck-fms, ikff ckt of begin2dig.com

If you’d like to book an individual movement assessment with dr. s prior to the workshop, please contact b2d-wk@the-mind.com

Bells & Brain Workshop

Aug 12 2011

We’re excited to announce a workshop on Saturday 20th August with dr. m.c. schraefel, learning instant tweaks to improve your athletic performance.

For those who don’t know, m.c. is as clued up as it gets on human performance & just happens to have a passion for kettlebells too. Not only a PhD & CSCS, she’s a fellow RKC II & also a Z-Health Master Trainer & you may also know her from her brilliant site www.begin2dig.com.

Come along & you’ll walk away with a suite of drills, self-assessments & theory you can immediately apply to improve your performance with kettlebells & beyond.

For example, you’ll learn:

  • how to test & reassess for within-set fatigue: is it safe to go on or better to stop?
  • techniques to improve balance immediately, without wobble boards or bosu balls
  • techniques to use visual, vestibular & proprioceptive cues to improve range of motion & strength immediately – no stretching required
  • a framework for self-programming with confidence

We will go through each drill and assess it’s effect on the spot, so come dressed for a workout!

Cost £45 per person in advance, places limited. 1215 for a 1230 start.

Any questions, just contact us.

Bank Holiday Classes

Apr 27 2011

Rejoice! All classes are on as normal over the spring bank holiday weekend. However, in patriotic homage to the national festivities, we’ll be lifting in pounds instead of kilograms.

In addition, the kettlebell class at 1700 on bank holiday Monday is open to gents as well as ladies. Let us know you’re coming so we can keep an eye on numbers.

TSC 9th April postponed

Apr 06 2011

Apologies for the short notice, but we’ve decided to defer this weekend’s Tactical Strength Challenge for a few weeks.

Too many people can’t make the date or are suffering untimely bugs, so we’ll rearrange for a time when more people can take part & enjoy it to the full.

Due to bank holiday weekends & the Bracknell half marathon, we’re probably looking at mid May & we’ll let everyone know once a date is confirmed.

Sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any questions or would like us to keep you informed by email, please contact us.

Sticky New Year!

Posted in Nutrition by Roger McCarthy RKC II
Jan 01 2011

Brace yourselves, folks – the annual January media blitz is upon us!

As the bells of Big Ben fade, every other advert, lifestyle program or magazine article switches focus from the indulgences of Christmas to undoing all their unwanted effects. Fad diets with fad foods & fad exercises on fad equipment; fadding useless, all of ‘em, so steer clear.

However, in amongst the dross there is one aspect you can make use of: the much-maligned new year’s resolution. They’re broken as soon as they’re set, right? Hey, you may have broken yours already. If so, chances are it’s no coincidence & you didn’t succeed because you inadvertently set yourself up to fail.

Failure is not inevitable! Here’s a quick guide to making a resolution that might actually stick. (more…)
