Eggs – Are they part of your diet?

Eggs have been vilified over the years from  1988 with MP Edwina Curry & the “Egg Scandal” & the prevalence of eggs containing Salmonella to “Eggs will clog up your arteries & lead to premature  death” both of these statements are extremely misleading.

In an ideal world we should try to eat free range organic eggs, but this isn’t always possible.

The benefits of eating whole eggs –

  • they are inexpensive
  • rich in high quality protein
  • contain vitamins B2, B6, B12
  • contain fat soluble vitamins A,D,E,K
  • contains minerals zinc, iron, copper, selenium
  • contain 9 essential amino acids
  • contain Omega 3 (if the chicken feed contains flaxseed)
  • versatile for cooking

We have been misinformed on the dangers of cholesterol in our diets over the last few years. Very little of the cholesterol we consume in our diet affects our blood serum cholesterol & cholesterol has been touted as the number 1 cause of Heart Attacks, which once again is not wholly accurate.

I will cover in a later blog post the role of cholesterol in our body & that LDL isn’t necessarily the bad guy.

Why the Kettlebell? Part 2

Here are just few more of the many benefits of an optimally performed Russian hardstyle swing.

The hardstyle swing as taught by StrongFirst hugely improves athleticism, coordination & agility.

It is a fantastic tool for fat burn & building strong, powerful well shaped glutes & shapely toned legs.

It increases maximal & explosive strength.

It is a great assistance exercise for powerlifters by improving work capacity, it improves the grip, provides a stronger lower back, glutes & hamstrings, it helps provide more explosive power.

Well executed kettlebell swings protect the lower by by helping recruit the core, utilising the abs, obliques to stabilise the spine & using the glutes, hamstrings & lats.

Why the Kettlebell? Part 1

Why the Kettlebell

Part 1

How’s your hip hinge?
To use a Kettlebell safely & effectively you need to learn the hip hinge…..An optimal hip hinge will help you become strong & stable in sport, exercise, & everyday life.
It is a fundamental movement pattern & the safest way to pick anything up from the floor, whether it’s a pair of socks, a kettlebell, or a barbell.
Be patient on patterning the hinge. It helps build a strong & resilient body, protects your lower back from injury, & is your key to achieving a powerful kettlebell swing or barbell deadlift.
If you need a technique check on your kettlebells, barbell or bodyweight skills, I am available for 1:1 coaching by video or in person.
